Furness (Marlborough Express). • flic chairman delivered a lengthy address, mainly of interest to newspaper proprietors only. He stilted that the aflairs of the Association generally wer« in a condition of efficiency and atabilit /. Satisfactory arrangements had beet made for cable service for the next thr.<; years, and lie pointed out that the Association was now receiving 50 per cent, more than the number of cables received five years ago. Summing up, the Chairman said: ".Reviewing the whole position, I may point out that the New Zealand Press Association possesses one of the most complete cable services in the world." The report mentioned that » fresh agreement had been made with the Auktralian Cable Association, and the right to use the Sydney Sun and Independent Cable Services had been acquired for a term of years. puring the year 350,43.5 words of original cable news had been supplied, which was more, than double tho number a few years ago. It was mentioned that 72 papers now subscribed to the Association, of which all 'but four also take the cable services. Shares had been issued to six new applicants during the year. Sir Fenwick complimented the chairman upon his able address, which he considered the best ever delivered. It was resolved that the address be printed and forwarded to all shareholders. The annual report and -balance-sheet were adopted. - The four retiring directors, Messrs H. Hrett, 11. Horton, G. Carson and F. Pirani, were re-elected. Mr. F. Shaw was re-elected auditor. °t('s of thanks to the directors, the manager and stall of the Association were passed. 1 imam was decided upon as the next place of meeting. votes of tlu\nks were accorded to (he Xew Plymouth lioroiigh Council for the use of its chambers and Ilia municipal baths; to the oil companies and the Tourist and Expansion League, for showing members over the oil works: to the Mountain House Committee for kindness shown members when visiting the mountain house; to Messrs Xcwton King and 0. W. Govett and Sole Bros, for placing their beautiful grounds at the disposal of members: to the curator of Pukektira Park, and to all others who had contributed to the pleasure of members during ttieir stay in the town. Yesterday afternoon tile visiting pressmen and printers were shown over the lark, '"Brooklands," and "Maranui." Afternoon tea was served at the Racecourse tea kiosk, Mr Van Heck's orchestra supplying a programme of musie that proved very acceptable. At the conclusion of the proceedings, Mr & teuwick, on behalf of the visitors, expressed their warm appreciation of the hospitality that had been extended to them during the week hv the local printers and newspaper proprietors, who acknowledged the compliment in suitable te-ms. A party of visitors were motored to the mountain in the afternoon, the trip being greatly enjoyed. In the evening, the adjourned meeting of the provincial liewsnaper proprietors was held. 1 lie executive of the Master Printers' Association met yesterday morning, and also m the evening.
