HOSPITAL BOARD.
[ MONTHLY MEETING. At the monthly meeting of the Taranaki Hospital and Charitable Aid Hoard yesterday there were present: Messrs V. V. .1. Bellringer (in the chair), M. .1. Maeßeynolds, E. Maxwell, 1). McAllmn. .1. R. Hill, .)'. Brown, A. 11. Haleombe. 1). H. McDonald, CI. V. Tate and Mrs E Dockrill. OLD PEOPLE'S HOME. The acting-matron of the Old People's Home (Mrs. K. A. Parkinson) reported two admissions, one departure and one death during the month, leaving at present in the Home 2(i males ami 7 females. Discipline had been good and supplies satisfactory.. HOSPITAL RKPORT. Dr. E. A. Walker, medical superintendent of the Hospital, reported that during, the month there were 17 admissions. 47 discharges and one death, leaving 47 patients now in the institution. Twentyfive operations had been performed. HEALTH, INSPECTOR'S REPORT. The health inspector (Mr. R. W, Sinclair) reported that during the mouth he had visited Inglcwood twice, Waitui, Tikorangi, Waitara and Bell Block. He had disinfected houses at Wortley road and Bedford road, Inglcwood, and in Devon street, New Plymouth. A few cases of chiekenpox had been reported and these bad all been attended to ind the houses disinfected. Two cases of scarlet fever had been reported, one on the Barrett road and one at Warrc street, Waitara. The former house had been disinfected, and the latter, would be done, when the patient was convalescent. Two cases of eerebro spinal meningitis had been reported, one at Tikorangi and the other at Waitara. One of th\ sufferers had died. Both houses had been disinfected.
The inspector will be instructed to enquire into the foundation' for a statement recently made through the press, to the effect that the septic tank was not working satisfactorily.
GENERAL. Dr. Valintine, Inspector-General of Hospitals, wrote that he had been informed by the Minister for ltailways that the request for concessions to nurses travelling to examination centres could not be acceded to. The Minister had expressed sympathy with the request, but pointed out that one section of the public could not be treated differently from another. Dr. Valintine also wrote suggesting that the district nurse at fe'ruti be empowered ,to handle the disinfecting and other sanitation work in connection with infectious diseases. He pointed out that this would save the Board's inspector much work. The nurse would, of course, work in conjunction with him.—The request will be acceded to. provided the Health Department makes no objection. Nurse Kelly, district nurse at Urufi, wrote resigning her position, and requesting that she be relieved of her duties, if possible, at the end of the month, as she needed a change of climate.—Accepted, to take effect as soon as- her successor can be appointed. Accounts amounting to .€98(1 2s ltd were passed for payment.
