URUTI COTTAGE HOSPITAL.
OPENING CEUEMOXr. Sinie. eighteen months ago, the <fttiers of I'rnti realised that tTio growing needs of their district demanded n permanent provision in ease of aceident or serious illness in their midst. For some time a nurse had been working in the district, and it was decided to make an effort to provide a nursing home for her, with a ward for use in case of emergency. The settlers of the riistrict subscribed liberally, and the contributions were subsidised by the (iorernmcnt and the Taranaki Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, The Plunkot Nurse Association, of which Mrs. 0. II IStirgess, of Sew Plymouth, was president. and the Victoria League also assisted. Uruti has now a cottage hospital costing about £3OO, containing u nurse s room, a sitting room, a two-bed ward, bathroom and conveniences, and a wide verandah for the accommodation of convalescents. The Victoria League and the Plunkot Nurse Association provided the furniture. The building was formally opened yesterday bv Mr. K. Wilson, II.P. for Laumarunui, before a large attendant of Uruti settlers and New Plymouth people, which included Mr. Ar 11. Ilalcombe (of the Taranaki Hospital and Charitable Aid Board), and i.i, T ?' Bur S ess (president of the I luiiKct Xurae Association).
