Commenting on tile satisfactory' result of the year's operations, tile chairman of the Wellington Gas Comnany, at the annual meeting to-day, stated that by payment of the last instalment of the call on ordinary shares that fell ilm- on March 15 last the share capital became £235,7*80. derived from ordinary shares ami £711,088 from preference shares issued, or £308,808 in all, of which the sum of £308,584 had been, received. To meet the 5 ner cent, dividend on preference ami the customary dividend of 10 per cent, on ordinary shares £27,232 would he roouired each vear. The amount carried forward ruder nropoaals' previously *ul>mitted now stood at £22,4!)8, which was still a less sum than the amount of one year's dividend wliieh the Board was of opinion ought to he in hand, so as to afford provision for possible contingencies arising out of coal and labor difficulties.
