A PECULIAR EATALITV. Taihape, Last Night. A man named Samuel Smith, who was stumping with a companion ut ilataroa to-day, liatl hitched his horse to a large stump. In consequence of a pull, the stump fell backwards, striking Smith heavily on the chest and killing him instantly. His companion (Donald) had a narrow escape.
CRIMEAN VETERAN'S DEATH. Christchurch, Last Night. Charles I'arsons, M years ol age and single, died at Pananui on KaWMay. An inquest was held, at which a verdict of death from natural causes was returned. Deceased is said to hava fought i» the Crimean and China wars. A BODY RECOVERED. Wangmii, Last Xight. The body of a named Rcrt Junes, drowned in the river at Kaiwhaike on Tuesday, was found at ITpokongaro this morning.
