the steamer Makavini was responsible for the death of Harry Gallagher, * VJ trimmer of that vessel, through beiag felled by a blow last night./ / ■«' It appears that the men from the ' " steamer were having a night ashore, and went to the Wellington Hotel, ; where they met some men from the *«■ waterfront. Trouble arose, and as ob- ':% jectionable word was made use of. <?* Gallagher, it is said, demanded an ex- | planation from the man using the language. At this stage, the barman In- -•■% terfercd, and sent the men outside. Then, it is alleged, a man named John ' Albert Tucker struck Gallagher on the t% jaw, knocking him down. Gallagher £ struck his head heavily on tho ground?, ""' and, as he didn't make any attemj ♦to \ r rise, it was perceived that the m»>' «;' seriously injured.
