SYDNEY WHARFMEN'S DISPUTE. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright Sydney, February 14. The conference of shipowners and watersiders adjourned indefinitely, and arranged that a joint statement of the ! position be prepared and issued to the press by Messrs Xortheote and Hughes. The latter informed the press that lie had not yet prepared the draft statement, and the matter must wait till Monday. No further information wis a va viable. THE TRADE UNION CONGRESS. DEPUTATION TO MR. ASQUITH. London, February 13. Tue Parliamentary Committee of the Trade Union Congress waited on Mr. Asquith to urge the nationalisation of railways and the introduction of women's suffrage. Mr. Asquith, in reply, stated that the acquisition of the railways would inevitably be followed by a demand for a reduction of fares and rates and a request by the employees for shorter hours and increased wages. A Royal Commission was enquiring into the question, and the ultimate determination might well be left until its report was presented. He declined to introduce a Women's Suffrage Bill. RECOGNISED AT LAST. Received 15, 5.5 p.m. Lordon, February 14. The railway companies have collectively decided to recognise the National Union of Railwaymen.
