THE MARCHING COMPETITION'. 'NEW PLYMOUTH BAND WELL i:i\ 1' By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. The Exhibition band contest concluded on Saturday. Tlie following are the results of the quick-step march competitions^— A Grade.—Waihi Federal, -2881/, points, 1; Palmerston North, 262% points, 2; 3rd Auckland) Regimental", 262%, 3. The other bands were placed in tlie following order:—Auckland Garrison 260'/;., Kaikorai 256%, Queen Alexandra's Own 251 Vi, South Canterbury 251, Wanganui Garrison 250, Wellington City 249%, St. Kilda 248, Wellington Tramway 244%, and Gisliorne Citv 234%. B Grade—lnvercargill Hibernian 2oS points, 1; 16th Waikato liegimcntal 24934, 2; 11th Taranaki (Now Plymouth) Regimental 248%, 3. The other bands were placed as follows:—Onchunga, 242)% points, Marton Roval 239%, Whangarei 235 V., Wellington Waterside Workers 221%, Napier 218 Hawera Municipal 214%, Dargarillc 214. Drum Solo Contest.—A. E. Price (Kith Waikato Regiment), 86 points (gold medal), 1; J. Blackwood (2nd South Canterbury Regiment), 85 points (silver medal), 2. The massed bands wound up the afternoon ky Paying the "Imperator" march and the National Anthem.
Tlio aggregates were thereafter computed, with the following results:— Besson Challenge Shield, for highest aggregate points in selection*, and for music in the quick-step competition (formerly held by Waihi), Second South Canterbury Regimental Band, with 313 4-5 points, 1. The next highest were: Auckland Regimental 312 1-5, Wanganui Garrison 311, Kailcorai 311, St. Kilda 310 2-f), Wellington City 3»8 3*5, Wellington Tramways 307 4-5, Wanganui Queen Alexandra's Own 307.
Hawkcs Challenge Shield, for the highest aggregate marks, including drill, in A Grade test selections and quickstep competitions.—Auckland Regimental Band, with .")55V4 points. The next highest were:—end South Canterbury 54fi, Waihi 543%, W r ang»nui Garrison 543, and Wanganui Alexandra's Own 540%.
The Boosey Shield, forth* highest marks in both selections for the B Grade, was won by Tmercargill Hibernian with 314 3-5 points, the next beinir Onehunga, 307 4-5; Whungarei, 307 3-5, and Marton, 300 3-5. The conductor of the Hibernian Band (Mr Wills) receives a silver-mounted baton from the Contest Committee.
