HEALTH REGULATIONS.
ONLY FRIGHTENING IMMIGRANTS. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright London, February 12, The Agents-General have drafted a report on the Commonwealth's medical examination of emigrants. It refers to the inquisitorial character of the questions asked, and declares that it is inadvisable to frighten away people by excessively stringent restrictions, notably the exclusion of anyone developing latent disease within three years. PROTESTS BY AGENTS-GENERALS. Sydney, February 13. Sir T. Coghlan, Agent-Gcnenal has cabled to the Government that ihe proposed compulsory medical examination of first and sccoml-elass passengers will act as a deterrent to the tourist traffic. He urges that' the proposed regulations be submitted to a conference of the Agents-General. Mr. Cann, Treasurer, has forwarded Sir T. Coghlan's message to Mr. Holman, agreeing that the regulations will be resented by both passengers and shipping companies. He suggests that the Federal authorities should provide the ! cost of medical inspection of third-class passengors for one year as an experiment.
