The fourth Dominion conference of ■the, .New ZealKiul Engine-drivers' Firemen's anil Cleaners' Association opened .yesterday. Mr. Kennedy, in his presidential report, announced the steady •progress of the Association and healthy interest manifested in its concerns. The ■general membership was now in the vicinity of 100(1, representing !)5 pel' cent, of the workmen engaged in Ihe loco, section of - the, railway service. The attitude of the Department ill failing lo respond to representations made was causing complaint. The finuid Council intended making; strong representations 011 the matter. Overtures •arc to be made to the Department. The ■'deliberations of the (Iranil Council are ■to he submitted to the Department, whose reply would be considered at a which will not be open !o ■the press. It is expected to last over a week.
