Mr. Smuts intimated in the Assembly that the prohibition of public meetings would immediately be withdrawn. General Botha is suing Professor Frcmantle, M.L.A., for £IO,OOO damages for libel, for alleging that the Premier attempted to bribe him to secure his Bupport against General Ilertzog. London, February 11. Mr. Harcourt, in reply to a question in Parliament, said that Lord Gladstone enjoyed the Government's complete confidence. He had wished to retire early in 1913, but, owing to the Government's pressure, agreed to postpone his resignation. His reasons were entirely domestic. It is officially stated that Lord Gladstone will retire in May. I
