STRATFORD MOUNTAIN CLUB
At present it seems inevitable that to-night's meeting to form a Stratford Mountain Club will be well attended. There are many functions which such a club should fulfil . Its primary! object would be to aid and facilitate, excursions to the mountain and to pro mote knowledge of it. The charm of the mountain, of its marvellous busiv of it wonderful views, and of its lovely cloud effects cannot be fully appreciated unless one is familiar with it. The proposed club would make the mountain its hobby, and many delightful excursions could be arranged. Those whoso knowledge of the tracks .and bush is extensive could impart their knowledge to others to assist them in jnany ways.. As showing the necessity for such a club, a party of Wanganui people were advised reeentlj that Hawera was the nearest town t< the mountain, and that to visit 'Maun Egmont via Hawera would mean : saving of time! Those visitors coul< Jiave saved nearly 20 miles by start lug their mountain excursion |ron Stratford, which is only half-arj-hou from the now popular East Mountain House. ENTERTAINMENTS HIS MAJESTY'S THEATRE.
Madame Bernard's enterprise i securing the finest pictures imported t the Dominion is meeting with its'du reward, and His Majesty's Theatre i more popular than ever, as an amus< Hient resort and an educator. Mue wafer had flowed under the Victori Bridge since Mme. Bernard first ai jiounced her intention of opening a up-to-date picture theatre in Stratfon and, although she met in some quartei with opposition and prejudice, she ha vindicated her good opinion of th tastes of the Stratford people, and ha catered thoroughly for the public sui port. To-night sees another gran change. "Brennan of the Moor," whic makes its first appearance before Stratford audience to-night, is an M cellent drama east in a setting of Iris scenery which greatly enhances th merits of the picture. It is the stov of a young Irishman, who, because c the ill-treatment'' meted ont to hi father "by the aristocracy of his cour try, vows to revenge himself upon th rich by robbing them for the benefit ( the poor. This he does with some su< cess, until the inevitable happens, an
he falls in love with a young lady cfl high connections, to whom the romancß and daring of bis wild life appeals, ifl the course of his love affair he incurH the hatred of a young army officer, wlifl has him arrested as an outlaw niifl imprisoned in a dungeon, into whieW the sea flows at high tide . When on the point of drowning, he escapes by secret door. The closing scene shows the wild flight of the young couple, .who are finally enabled to escape by the agency of some strolling acrobats, who form a human bridge over an otherwise impassable chasm. The picture with a good supporting programme, will be screened to-night and to-mor-row night. BOWLING The matcli West v East, resulted as follows: West.—R.
