MEDICAL CONGRESS.
OPENED YKSTHRUAY MORNINC. 300 DELEGATES I'UESHXT. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, I.a>t Night. The Australian Medical Congress was formally opened for business at eleven o'clock this moruin h . Nearly 300 delegates were present, and the president (Dr. A. C. .1. Purchas) was in the chair. Only formal business was done. A number of reports were received and referred to the. sections of the Congress which they affected. The executive's report was received and adopted. Dr. Purchas briefly welcomed the delegates to Auckland. Dr. J. A. MaeDonald, Chairman of the British Medical Association, delivered an address on the Hritish Insurance Act and its effect on the metrical profession in Britain. In the. afternoon the majority of the delegates were present at ;• reception in the Exhibition grounds. Tins evening the Congress was formally opened by His Excellence the Covernor (the Earl of Liverpool). Addresses of welcome were given by the Prime Minister (the. Right. Hon. W. I-'. Massey). the Minister for Public. Health (the Hon. R. IT. Rhodes), and the Mayor of Auckland (Mr C. ,1. Pan). Dr. Purchas then delivered a lengthy presidential .address. Rr William Irving, ol Christehiireli, was elected president-elect for liltf. and it was decided that the next annual meeting should be held at Chiislchurch.
