NEW SOOTH WAI.ES PROPOSAL. CHEAP BREAD PROMISED. By Cable —Press Association —Copyright Sydney, February 7. The Minister of Justice announces that the Government iB starting a State bakery to supply the Government institutions. With the steadily increasing cost of living the Government found itself having to pay more each year for the upkeep of institutions, and the question of keeping down the cost was fast becoming acute. The tenders for bread this y.car showed an increase of •28 per cent, compared with last year. The Minister was convinced that no real justification existed for this immense increase. In support of the contention that a ring existed among bakers, he stated that the Government refused to accept the lowest tenders and called for fresb ones, which Bhowod a large drop, the bakers apparently having guessed that enquiries were on foot to start a Government establishment.
