Y.M.C.A.
CONFERENCE CONTINUED. By Telegraph—Press Association. ] Auckland, Wednesday. I The. Y.M.C.A. Convention was con- ! tinued to-day. The convention was resolved for an hour into a religious conference. An address was delivered by Mr. John McKenzie, of Auckland. The various "phases of religious work in connection with the Association were then discussed by Messrs Hughes (Dunedin), Moreton (Dunedin), Baker (boys' work director at Christchurch), and other*. Mr. Peacock (Australia) emphasised the need for the intelligent direction of Christian energies, and the chairman (Professor Picken) expressed the fear ♦kat many young men were kept away from the Association by too much sanctimoniousness in Christian work. At the same time, it was absolutely essential to create a religious atmosphere to make it effectual. There were," however, some men who seemed ambitious to talk about their religious experiences to some other fellow. Four sectional conferences were held this morning. Lady visitors and others interested in the work of the Assoeiu- | Hon met in the club-room, and after discussion determined to form a Women's National Committee cf the. Y.M.C.A. of •New Zealand, with the object of bringing under one central organisation the different ladies' committees and auxiliaries, with a view to mutual helpful relations being established. Conferences were also held with relation to boys' work, military camp service and business management; and recommend* tions arrived at will come befoiv the I convention to-morrow.
