BOWLING.

THE STRATFORD CLUB. Ou Thursday afternoon the Stratford bowlers spent an enjoyable time on the green, the programme being a match East v. West, between players resident on the east and west side of Broadway. The rinks, as selected, had to be re-cast, owing to the non-appear-ance of several of the players, but even then the westerners appeared to have by far the better of things. The match ended in their favor by 100 points to 91, although East led on two full rinks, and was but one behind in the pairs. The. pairs were the last to finish, but Skoglund Secundus (substitute for Sanderson), a lad of about twelve years, put down some fine bowls in the concluding stages, and just got into th« lead at the last heave. Twenty-six heads were played, and the head scores were:

Bickerfon, Staples, Brake, Skoglund I (s) 28. v. Penn, Reeve, Dingle, Morison (s) 27. Webb, Harris, Martin, King (s) 20, v. Evans. Fookos, Nicholson, Smart (s) Ift. Moon, Wilson, Hartley, McDonald (s), 11, v. Cottier, Edgecumhe, Masters. McMillan (s). 27. Newton, Wright (s), 2(1, v. Sanderson, Hawkins (s), 27. OLD'UN'S v. YOUNCi'UXS. It is probable that a match will be arranged between the old and young players, the dividing line to be years totalling half a century. These matches give the new players a chance; and they appreciate it. In bowling clubs, as in other clubs, the authorities generally seem to cater most particularly for the veterans and experts, and the new chums pay their subs, and pick up what fun and what enjoyment they can. It is pleasing to note that some, of the old skips in the local club take a live interest in the "colts."
