ANNUAL CON FT li KXC'K, By Telegraph—Press Association; Auckland, Last Xight. The annual conference of the Xew Zealand Federated Master Plumbers ha? opened. The following delegates were present: A. Burt (president), H. J.Cooper ( vice-president), ,J. Spinley (treasurer),. F. Courtney (district vicepresident), and T. 11. Hanson (secretary). These formed an executive, and all came from Auckland. This year the visiting delegates were: FYoiu invertargiil,- Messrs. ,f. Sheahan and R. Spiers; Dunedin, J. M. Wilson and W. Foster; Christchureh, J. D. Colville, W. Large and H. Starkey; Wellington, C. Remington, II; Hanson, C. W. .Martin and A. W. Parton; Wangamii, ,1. 1). Graham; Gisborne,- A. Wade; : Waikato, T. F. Palmer and E. C. Clarksuii; Auckland, C. A. Peace, 11. A. Harrison and W. S. Foster; Timaru, F. Clough; llawke's Bay, G. ,W. Leach. Interesting reports i.were submitted from each district upon ' the science of sanitation as far as the plumbing trade was concerned. Amongst tTib recommendations made in the reports were the need for uniform by-laws regulating sanitary plumbing throughout the Dominion; the need for adequate water supplies and sanitary plumbing, in the interest'of the public health. The need for members of drainage boards being better qualified for their position wiis also touched upon, and one .delegate; suggested medical and practical men alone should be appointed. It was also pointed out that Wellington, before the drainage scheme was carried' .out, had the highest death rate-in New .Zealand, whereas th'n delegate from the capital claimed it'was' now the healthiest place in the Dominion. Another point touched upon was that in some boroughs unqualified men were still re■tained as sanitary inspectors. Some 23 .remits have been sent in for the consideration 1 of the conference.
