EXPRESS TRAINS DELAYED.
WASHOUTS ON THE LINE. By Telegraph —Press Association. Tiinaru, Last Night. A washout at a narrow gully just north of Waihao Bridge blocked railway traflic to-day. The tirst expresses north and south met there and exchanged passenger, and the mails were transferred, takirg three hours. The south train reached Timaru at 5.10, instead of at 1.30 p.m. Repairs are expected to be completed before morning. Dunedin, Last Night." Owing to the delay caused north of Oamarn by the washout on the railway lipe, the first express from Ohristchurch did not reach here till 7.Z0 p.m., leaving for Invereargill 15 minutes later. The second express from Christchurch u expected to be about two hours late. The train on the Outram line was delayed this morning by water on the line, but the afternoon train got through saf.-ly. Rain is reported from most district- .in Otago.
