THE TOKO SHOW

It seems not to be generally known that the schedule for the Toko Show, to be held on the 10th inst., provides .for a poultry section. The Association has decided to show the birds in the owners' own crates or pens this year, with a view of testing the probability of success to this section without piling up the expense, and probably fanciers will do all they can to assist. The poultry show will be held in the Coronation Hall.

The dog trials promise to be interesting, anil dog-owners will in all probability use the Toko gathering as a preliminary test of th". capabilities of their dogs, who may afterwards be found competing at the Stratford, East Road, New Plymouth, and Tarata trials. We. are informed that the entries are well lip to expectations in all departments, and that the first Toko horticultural and agricultural show is bound to be a success. Excursion trains from Stratford ,are, being arranged. Several entries, by the way, close on the 12th. Owing to an oversight, Mr. Jas. Bain's £2 2s special for milkcart horse was omitted from the schedule, and Mr. Bain now wishes £1 Is to be added to the first prize in this class and £1 Is to go to the general fund. Mr E. Mason lias come forward with a donation of £1 :ts, to be awarded as prizes for best pony, gear and rider, for school girls only attending the district schools, viz., Toko, Toko Road, Douglas, and Huiroa. Two handsome challenge cups have come to hand, and are being exhibited in Mr Bain's store at Toko. One (Mr J. B. Mine's) is for the best dairy herd, and the other (Mr C. Bayly's) is for the best three acres of swede turnip?. Mr AY. 11. Were has donated £5 towards the dog trials. The district is very fortunate in 'having such good "sports" in its midst. In fact, the Association is in luck's way in this respect, other settlers having given most liberally.
