Wreck of the Heta

A boat was launched but capsized. The captain and lifleen of the crew disappeared. Five others slruggued back to the wreck and rejoined three left on board, taking refuge m the rigging. Tile chief officer was Hie hist to take refuge. He lashed himself to the. mast and blew the whistle lo attract, attention. The water was gaining on him. and, realising the end was approaching, he. handed Hie whistle to a sailor with the remark "You can do better Mian 1." A few minutes later the sea covered him. The Falmouth lifeboat heard a faint whistle. Meanwhile a huge wave washed away three survivors. The lifeboat rescued live. [The Hera was a German ship bound to Falmouth. A previous cable stated that 1!) persons were drowned.]
