A DOCTOR FOR WHANGAMOMONA o ' * For years past-endeavors have been l' made tn secure a resident medical man ! in the \Viianganiomona district, the need for such Inning been felt over and over again. Indeed, many a valuable life has i been jeopardised, aye, and in many eases sacrificed, through the delay in' securing medical aid, due primarily to the distance that the district is separated from the Stratford doctors. All efforts to secure a resident medico have so far been unsuccessful, although a committee, backed up by residents of the district, has been zealously working j to that end and has secured a considerable guarantee. On one or two occasions it was thought that the arrangements had been completed and a doefor had been secured, but the hope., did not materialise. Still the settlers are not undaunted, and at a meeting at Wliangamoiuona on Monday last in connection with the Medical Association, there was a big attendance. Mr G. Court presided, and the following l new committee was elected:—Messrs. (}. Court, V. Klec, L. T. Aylward, W. A. McCutehan, C. E. Bacon, W. Reader, R. Shields, S. Mills, and W. Hodge, with Mr MeMeekan as secretary. The balance-sheet as read was adopted. The secretary reported that the'endeavors of the committee to secure a medical man for the district had failed, and it was resolved to make further efforts to secure a doctor within the next three montus.
STRAY PARAGRAPHS Mr Ivonrick, S.M., who met with an accident wliile up North on his Christmas vacation, occupied the bench at the sitting of the local court yesterday. lie still requires the use of crutches when walking. The following were granted land agents' licenses at the Court yesterday: W. W. Hodge, P. Dobion, Jos. MeClußgage, iiinl J. H. Thompson. The applications of W. M. Bayly, 0. .Jackson, ■T. I!. Richards, T. Saywcll, and T. I. Lamason were held over, owing to the papers not being technically correct. The Stratford Brass making a trip to the Mountain House on Punday, and will play a programme of music there in the afternoon, which should be appreciated by week-end visitors to that popular local resort. At the Magistrate's Court yesterday, on the information of the Borough Inspector, Chas. Waslcy was fined 20s and costs 7s for driving horses loose on the borough streets. Dominic Sisarich was mulcted in a similar sum for cycling at night without'a light. A man named John Limn was charged at the Magistrate's Court, before Mr. W. G, Kcnrick, 011 a charge of ill-treat-ing a maro on January 20 by working it with a sore ba«k. Sergeant McNeeley who prosecuted, said tliat defendant drove a baker's cart, and that (he tore was a raw one, about 3in. long. Defendant said that the horse appeared all right when it left the stable, and that a scab had apparently worked off an old sore. Fined 20s, aud costs 7s.
