ROWING.

TIIK CHAMPIONSHIP EKGATTA. SOMEWHAT OF A FARCE. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. The rowing championships of New Zealand were decided at the annual icgatta at Mercer -to-day. The weather conditions were generally suitable. A notable feature of the regatta, considered as a Dominion championship meeting, was the almost total absence of outside competition in the classic events—the champion fours, pairs, double sculls and single sculls. With the single exception of the Wanganui oarsmen, the competitors were rowing men from the various clubs in the district governed by the Auckland Rowing Association. No attempt has been made to conceal tho fact that the Wellington and Marlborough oarsmen in particular regard tho Waikato river as an undesirable course for a championship regatta. Some | of them have gone so far as to express the opinion that the course does not afford equal conditions for all competitors. l-tesults: Champion Pairs —Wanganui Union (Cotterill and Sharpe) 1, Waitemata (Herring and Andrews) 2. Thew were the only competitors. Won by trn lengths. It was a disappointing race for a championship. Champion Single Sculls (Waitemata) 1, Roose (Mercer) 2, Stone (St. Georges) 3. The prow,l champion had the race pretty much his own way, and won comfortably by s'x lengths. Marshall, of the Wanganui Club, was fourth. Champion Fours —Wanganui Union (Corby, Sharpe, Ryland and Cotterill) 1, Waitemata (Andrews, lladfield, Parkinson, and Herring) 2, Ngaruawahia 3. Won comfortably. Champion Double Sculls—Wnngamii Union (C. Wadman and A. Sharpe) 1, St. Georges (C. E. Stond and T. Stone) 2. These were the only entries. Won by three lengths.
