TANAXAKI TOUUNAMKXT. COXCU'SIOX OK SI'XTIOX PLAY. FIVE m.VKS IX TilK SKMI-FINALS. The Taranaki bowling chilis were particularly fortunate yesterday in t;ie matter of '.veathsr for the third day ol the tournament, when the suction play was concludi d. The weather, wlik-h had been threatening at times throughout the day, remained line—save for a slight drizzle at about eleven o'clock, which dehned play but a few moments—until the conclusion of the day's play, when it teemed, and at time of writing, matters do nut loo!; too promising for the sen'.i-linals and finals to-day.

The greens played well, ami so'n" good anil exciting play was witnessed on liutSi the New Plymouth and Fiui'v' green:;. Imleul. ui one game on the latter green, tin re must have been a dozen ' burnt" heads. Five rinks remain in the semi-finals, and that means an extra series of matches to-day. A. K. Smart, in section I>, and )•'. Mason, in section D, continued their unbeaten carper, and win in their .sections without a loss. Smart, however, had a narrow escape at the hands of the veteran Maclie, 01 Opnnarko. who was two up at the twentieth head. The New Plymouth skip was equal to the occasion, however, ami scored the necessary three points. In section C his brother George, of Stratford, scored three wins in tlie day, and just got in ahead of another brother, Herbert, by a game, winning seven and losing one. In section A, tlu; two West End rinks, skipped bv C. X. Johnson and F. Newell, won their two games yesterday, and thus, with six wins and two losses, qualify for the Kemi-linals. The contestants, in the semi-finals, will be A. K. Smart (Now Plymouth), F. Mason (Piliama), (!. Smart (Stratford), C. X. Johnson (West End), and Fred Xewell (West End).
