TARANAKI FIRE FIGHTERS.
j DEMONSTRATION'S AT WAITARA. ( FITZROY WINS THE SHIELD.
There was a good attendance of people from Waitara and elsewhere on the Camp Reserve at Waitara yesterday, when the first Fire Brigades' demonstrations under the auspices of the Taranaki United Fire Brigades' Association to be held at Waitara took place. The programme was a lengthy oiif, over 100 teams competing, and in the variety of evolutions which the fire-fighters performed, the spectators found much to interest them. Considering the fact that it was the first meeting of the kind which the Waitara people have handled, the starting and general arrangements were excellent. Messrs. C. McLean and R. Tate acted as starters, and Mr T. Buchanan as marshal, while Messrs. C. 11. Tate and B, Murgatroyd made efficient and attentive secretaries.
One of the most interesting events of the day was the two-men rescue, with ladder, which was won by the Fitzroy A team, I. Aroa and I. Colson, by the narrow margin of 4-sscc. Colson's fine work with the ladder was mainly responsible for the victory. Both the New Plymouth and Fitzroy teams showed up well, as the results indicate. During the afternoon the Waitara Municipal Band contributed an enjoyable programme of music. fn the evening the competitors were entertained at a smoke-concert, during which the prizes were presented.
