MONTHLY MEETING. At tlie mnntlily meeting of the Tara naki Education Hoard Yesterday. U:ci;e were present: .Messrs 11. Trimble ( : n Hie chair), A. Morton, W. L. Keiimdv, \ A. Haleombe, R. .Musters, <;. A. Adl-'uii, Young anil Rogers. Leave of absence was granted to Mr. A. M. Bradbury. >

CHAIRMAN'S REPORT. The chairman (Mr. H. Trimble) reported that during the month he had made, I a number of temporary appointments j to the teaching stair. The caretaker of the Hoard'* office; and the Technical College. Mr. Simmons, had stated that the work had increased considerably since he wis lirst appointed, jnainly owing to the increased number of classes held in the College, ami he considered that the remuneration was not sufficient. Air. Simmons was at present Receiving iil 12s (Id per week ami he stated that the average time worked by him during last year was :)(Va, hrs, but he received £t IDs in addition to his salary for extra work i-an-cd bv the teachers' and scholarship exa;einations. lie suggested it' he was granli-d assistance towards keeping Hie ground* in order it would meet the oa.-.e.

The report was adopted, and it was decided to increase the caretaker's salary by £l3 per nnniini.

ixsrEci'o'r.s report. The Chief Inspector, Air. W. A. Bailantyne, reported that some of the teachers had linen very irregular in their attendance at the Saturday elites. Seeing that provision had been made whereby teachers, without expense to themselves, had an opportunity of improving their efficiency, and at Hie same time qualifying for a ccrtili.ato. lie thought Hie Hoard might reasonably expect that the teachers should earnestlv endeavor to take full advantage of fie courses provided. He would recommend that the. teachers who had attended verv irregularly (according to the li-l appended) 'l>» asked if they had any explanation to offer.

The report was adopted. The teachers named therein will be sent, a copy of the record of their attendance, and asked for an explanation of their invs '■- larity. ,

I That £2O per annum be paid to the i technical fund from the capitation earn- ] cd by the manual classes in the New j Plymouth Technical College, on account of supervision. That all appointments ; of manual and technical instructors be made by the Hoard, after consulting with the inspectors and director conjointly. Thai the boohs of the manual and technical funds be Kept by the secretary. , That- when manual and technical instructors are paid a yearly salary, after the school classes are finished for the year the Hoard may require theui to take technical classes without payment. That tin: director's salary be increased by £lO per annum each year until it reaches the sum of £3OO per annum, the first inerement to date fron ■lamiary 1, 1914. Mr Master, mount the adoption of the report. ilr Rogers was of opinion that the Technical organiser'* salary was insuflicient. The chairman stated that it was as ; much as the Board could all'ord. Mr llalcombe belieW that the servants of the Hoard were too often wretchedly paid. The technical organiser possessed tact and energy, and was making a success of the :.cbcl.

Mr. Adl;im agreed. In too many case. 1 , in the past, the Hoard liail lost, the services of good men, because it would mt pay them enough. He moved that the organiser's salary he increased to £3OO. This motion was lost, but on the motion of Mr llalcoinbe, it was decided that Mr dray's salary be increased by annual increments of £ls, 'instead of £lO, until it reached £325.

Moore) reported that since th'j last meeting of the Board practically Ike whole of his time bad been taken up with the new class-room at the W'c-t End School, new wood workroom at the Technical College, and the work at Courteiiay Street. These were well on towards completion. Sundry repairs, including the strengthening of the ceiling above the infants' room at the. YYc-t End, had b-.-eii attended to at tli;.' same time.
