DISTRICT MEWS.
MAKETAWA. (From Our Own Correspondent). I am extremely- sorry to have to record the death of Mr l'ercy Stephens, which took place on Wednesday last, at " the residence of his mother, Durham Road East. Tlie deceased, who was aged 2b j ears, was well known and exceedingly well-liked by a very large number in the Mo« district, and the news of his death came as a shock to all. He waa a blacksmith by trade, having learned tlie business with Messrs. Npurdle Bros, and Allen, of Inglowood, and was working on his own account at Toko. It appears that deceased caught a chill while bathing in a river ,and, notwithstanding all medical attention, complications ensued resulting in his demise as above. Tlie family have the sincere sympathy of a very large number of residents at the untimely end of a promising young fellow. The district can ill afford to lose such. The funeral, which took place at Inglewood on L'ridav, was very largely attended.
