He suggested ,tlie grouping of small consignments, and complained of the dressing of Xew Zealand meat, which was so deteriorated through carelessness that high-class graders sometimes refused to'; accept delivery. A large importer bad ' told witness that the superior dressing of Argentine mutton added a farthing a pound. -Mr. George Munroc, a fruit merchant at Covent Garden, combated -Mr. Hume Cook's statement at Melbourne, oil May 2, accusing the Covent Garden auctioneers of selling to the Australian" shippers' disadvantage. That statement, be said, was preposterous. Commenting on the evidence of Mr. Benson, Tasmanian DWtor „f Agriculture, witness said lie did not think the proposed distributing organisation would be any improvement on the present competitive system. .Replying to the evidence of Mr. Jacoby, at Perth, witness said that Hamburg, although able to-distribute large quantities of the choicest fruit, was unable to keep up the average of prices of a general consignment" like they were in Condon. Large Tasmania!! consignments of apples were diverted to London because it was a .better market than Hamburg.
