According to the evidence given by McKay, Federal Land Tax Commissioner, before the Dominions' Commission, in the first year of the tax £11.509.000 worth of land passed out of'tlie taxable held; in the second year £0,000,000, and in the third year £2',500,000. After giving various reasons, lie savs that the tax was undoubtedly preventing the accuniu■hilihn of large estates, its general effect being in the direction of increasing the subdivision of estates.
