The Lost Submarine
SEARCH CONTINUED. ADMIRALTY BLAMED. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright London, January 19. The Admiralty has ordered that the . submarine A 7 must be found. Twelve torpedo boats, with nine divers, are. scouring the sea-bed. Torpedoliuding hawsers are being employed. Ten square miles were covered on Monday. It is feared in some quarters that the 'quicksands of Whitsand Bay have swal-' lowed the submarine. Naval experts complain that the tender accompanying the submarine was not fitted with wireless and was not able to summon help immediately. They also complain of the absence of lifting ships similar to the German and French j ships. i News purporting to give the official view states that the A class of submarine is not dangerous. The men share this view. Owing to the depth .of the water it is impossible for any apparatus to raise the submarine within "4 hours. If the men are asphyxiated the submarine should have risen automatically . If she is embedded in the sand she had sufficient power to release herself. There was uo delay in signalling. , ' Berlin, January l'J.j j Naval experts consider the Admiralty's criminal negligence was responsible for the submarine disaster. Some newspapers describe the A class submarines as coffin-ships. AN UNWARRANTED STATEMENT. Received 21, 1 a.m. London, January 20. Admiral Egcrton declares that Use statement that the ''A" class of submarj ines is dangerous is unwarranted.; '
