ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES
INQUEST. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Carterton, Saturday. The .inquest on the body, of a man killed at the Waingawa Meat Com-, pany'a crossing to-day wils beard before Air J. T. il. Jlonuiby, district coroner, at the Courthouse, Carterton, this afternoon, when a, verdict of accidental death was returned. UOATIXG FATALITY. ( Wellington, Last Night. A fatal accident occurred tliis morning near, Happy Valley. Three men named Thomas Smith, Benjamin Smith, and Francis McFaddin were out in a boat, and while one man was standing on the gunwale, preparing to plunge in for a bathe, the craft capsized. Benjamin Smith and .McFaddin struggled to a. reef about .'iO yards aw.ay, but Thomas Smith was drowned. Deceased was a married man with two children. COMMERCIAL TRAVELLER'S DEATH. i <"*>« i * :-'" ' :"' Wellington, Last Night. The inquc>t was concluded yesterday, concerning the death of Kichard Mostyu Hoops, commercial traveller, who died suddenly on January 0. A bottle of opium pills was found in deceaseds room, and the post-mortem examination disclosed corrosion of the stomach, indi-cating-the action of an irritant poi-on. The coroner returned a verdict that death wa's due to perforation of the stomach, but that there was no evidence to show exactly bow it was caused. AN INQUEST ADJOURNED. ' ' Wellington, Last Night An inquest was opened yesterday regarding the death of Philip Angel, a laborer, who was found in a dying condition in the City Keserve on' Wednesday, apparently from poison. The inquiry was adjourned to secure a report from the Government Analyst on the contents of deceased's stomach.
