RIVAL lIOSTKLIUES. The Treasury notified the allocation of ■ .£•201) us the. (iovorniuent subsidy, and the meeting proceeded to allot this sum to the various committees. Jn a general preliminary discussion, the remark was passed that at last the local people at Stratford were beginning to wake up and realise what an easy route they had of getting to the mountain. Mr. Wilkio anil other members,-however, maintained that this local trallic wan not sufficient to maintain the house now erected, from which the board had hitherto received no revenue at all. Tt was generally recognised that the Dawson's Falls site was by far the superior of the two, and Mr. Wilkie's idea was that eventually tliei'6 must, 'l)6 only the one houses at Dawson's Falls, with a round road connecting up the. present Stratford route. The Stratford bouse would sntl'ice for one-day' picnic trips, hut would never do as a •tourist resort. Mr. Wilkio hoped that the idea of making a round drive would .lie. kept in view. Mr.Gomlson agreed ,witl\ Mr. Wilkio. . The secretary stated I hat there was a good caretaker now at the. Stratford house, and he was receiving the revenue as payment, after having first sent in 1 all moneys received, and a detailed statcj nient of receipts and expenditure.
The Allocation was made as follows: South House (Dawson's Falls), STo; North (New Plymouth), £55; East (Stratford), £so;'West (Itahotii), £10; and the hoard's funds £lO.
SOUTH HOUSE IMPROVEMENTS. The South Committee during the season has. made improvements to the value of about £3OO, and' .Messrs 0. Goodson and It. buy, members of the committee, guaranteed the hank for the amount. With ;>. view to indemnifying them .against loss it was agreed to payi all surplus funds, after providing for maintenance and upkeep, to this particular account. PEMBROKE ROAD RESERVES. Last month the hoard decided to approach the Under-Secretary for Lands in an endeavor to get reserves on the Pembroke road (Stmtfoid) vested in the board, 'but no reply had been received to the communication. Answering Mr. Morison, the chairman said the .matter had not been lost sight of and •would be furthered as much as possible. GENERAL. • .Mr. Cioodsou advocated the necessity of having a telephone installed at the radius line gate tit Dawson's Falls. This matter, and that of shifting the gate lower down the track, was left in the hands of the South Committee, with a free hand in making the arrangements.
.Mr. CoHis mentioned that somo visitors Inul complained of the neglected stateof the truck between the Dawson's Kail and Stratford House, -hut Mr fioodson said the matter had been attended to.
Account* amounting to £264, representing supplies, cartage, repairs, etc., for the dill'erent houses, were duly certified for payment.
