One of tho oldest .residents of Shannon, Mrs. Annie G'mgeU, passed away on Sunday at the age of eighty one. The deceased lady was the relict of the late Thomas Giiigell, and was a Shannon resident of twenty-three, years' standing. Mr. and .Mrs. Gingcll arrived in Wellington from England in December, 18711, in tho ship Hermione. Mrs. Gingoll, whose husband died in 1894, was a native 'of Gloucestershire. She left two sons and two daughters—Mr. T. H. Gingcll, 'of Eoxton, Mr. IS. 6. G'mgeU and Mrs. Nichol, .of Shannon, and Mrs. Cox, of Hnnnythorpe.' Three years before New Zealand was William El inn, then a boy four years old, arrived in the colony with his parents, last week he celebrated with Mrs. Klinn, at their home at Port Eitzroy, Great Barrier Island, the sixtieth anniversary of their wedding. He then acquired the freehold of the 2ftt) odd acres which ever since have been the home of himself and his wife.
