A STRIKE INCIDENT.
jßy Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. At the I'olice Court to-day, the magistrate heard a charge of assault arising out of the incident on the Mahcno, when Charles Thomas Reeves, who .s prominent in '•I.WAV." circles, and a constant speaker during tile progress .if the recent strike, was objected to as a steerage passenger on the vessel and forcibly ejected. The defendant was T. R. Brookes, ami the assault complained of consisted of seizing complainant by the uvm and pushing him off the steamer. Mr .Mahoncy appeared for Reeves. In the evidence, the complainant stated that lie was followed to the boat by a special constable, who rushed to the hold and called out, "Here's Reeve-:. Come up, boys!" The volunteer lirenien and special constables assembled quickly, and hurried towards him with excited queries. He was grabbed, and had an arm twisted and pressed'upwards at his buck, causing pain, and was hustled olf the steamer and along the wharf. Oil the way lie was bit aijd kicked, his hair was pulled, and his clothing torn, lie knew defendant, well, and saw him at the head of the crowd for some distance. He was the man who caught him by one arm.
Reeves was severely cross-examined, ami the Court decided there was insufficient evidence of assault, and dismissed tiie ease.
