Mr. Ghent, to appeal to the public for subscriptions. The Judge refused an adjournment, and pointed out that if defendant were, without means tho law provided machinery. Besides damages, the Rev. Air. Ghent o-btaiink'd an injunction against a repetition of tho slander. DEFEXDAXT REBUFFED. Received 14, 12.20 a.m. London, January 1". Fitzgerald said lie wrote on Saturday "asking the Bishop of Southwark to hold an inquiry in. the Consistory Court, and lie desired an adjournment until the Bishop replied. The judge pointed out that the law provided machinery whereby people without means were protected. Fitzgerald said he. was unable, to cross-examine so able anil subtle a man as the. plaintitr, and he dramatically left the Court.
