THE ZABERN TROUBLE.
-MINISTERS EXPRESS SATISFACTION. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright Berlin, January 11. In the Prussian Diet, Ilerr von Uolh-mann-llolhveg- declared that great satisfaction had been caused him by the way the Prussians took it to heart when the honor of the army was touched. He had received many letters of approval from all classes.
Herr M'andel, Under-Secretary of Siate lor the Interior, replying to a question in the Alsace-Lorraine Diet, admitted that while the court-martial was sitting a squadron of Hussars was in readiness to act as the civil authorities requested, but the Government hoped the sound commonseiibe of the population would render it unnecessary,
ENGLISH PRESS COMMENTS. London, January 11. The Observer's correspondent states that Berlin and Prussia are North German to the core. The bulk of opinion approves of the army's triumph. Many regard Alsace-Lorraine as an enemy. The Liberal and Radical newspapers vigorously protest. Some quote) the Kaiser's threat to smash Alsace and Lorraine to atoms, and declare that the court-martial has now saved him that trouble, but, they add, the Zabern affair is not ended yet.
