The committee recommends: That the. health officer, having in pursuance of section 90 of "The Public Health Act, 11KIH," certified that the building used as stables situate on part section (UO, between Devon and King streets, Xcw Plymouth, owned and occupied by Michael Jones, is by reason of its insanitary condition dangerous to public health, the New Plymouth Borough Council, the local authority concerned, •■hereby authorises and instructs that notice be given to the owner thereof requiring him to pull down the •said building within three calendar •months from the date of such notice; that Messrs A. L. ABATTOIR REPORT. > During the. month there were slaught- ] ered for local consumption 12+ cows. I 27 bullocks, 17 calves, 548 sheep, 4,'il ' lambs, 97 pigs and 13 suckers. Compar- f •ed with the corresponding month of last I year they shown an increase of 13 cattle, 2 lambs, 9 suckers; and «. decrease of 2 calves 13 sheep and 10 pigs. Condemned, 2 cows and 1 pig. Slaughtered for export nil, u decrease of 32 cattle and 137 calves. Fees due for Ihe month amount to £124 Is; rents £3 6s Gil; extraordinary traffic fees received, Gil; total £127 7s; a decrease of Hli IDs. r KXCIXEER'S REPORT. Streets.—The past month, in conseoueneo of excessive wet weather, has 'been very severe on the streets and roads. Approximately 711 cubic yards J of metal was used in repairs. Footpaths.—2(i chains of footpaths lwvo been reformed and covered with gaol gravel.

Kerbing and Channeling.—Approximately fomt chains of kerb and channel have been laid down from the railwav • crossing in Weymouth street to tlicj municipal baths. i Waterworks.—The caretaker reports ' difficulty in maintaining the water supply owing to the continuous flooded state of -tlia river in the earlier part of tile month.

Loan work.—The following street plans are completed:—McLean street. Xf)bs' Line, Hondrio street, Paynlers Lane, and Doralto road. Liurdct' lining is progressing satisfactorily. Waterworks inlet.—This work is progressinng satisfactorily, and 2i men are employed at the excavation. | .ELECTRICAL EXCIXEEITS REPORT. The maximum load for December was 240 kilowatts. The river was fairly high up to the end of the month, so that ample, power was available. The :!."!() K.V.A. transformer has been delivered at the powerhouse and is now being connected. The poles which were ovki" carried during the strike have not vet come to hand. The second street lamp authorised for Avenue road has been fixed. Also one extra lamp at Frankleigh ro:ul. Total connections to private lightin," line now number 12-11, an increase of ,21? for the past twelve months. The expenditure on extension was Co -2s Bd. BATHS COMMITTEE. '

At a meeting of the committee on December 18, the caretaker was instracted not to permit the inner hut bath to bo used during mixed bathing hours; the Borough engineer was instructed to have notices erected indicating the position of the ladies' lavatories and also to .report upon the question of providing more convenience for ladies: consideration of tlio tenders received for painting the. baths was deferred. It wn.s decided that the Borough engineer be instructed to provide for the "necessary, ventilation of the hot lmth rooms. At a meeting on January 9 it was decided that as recommended by the. Borough engineer the outflow pipe from the se]iiic tank be extended seaward one chain and that a llap valve be placed at the end of the pipe (estimated cost £ls). The report of the Borough engineer with reference to the provision made in connection with the ladies' conveniences was considered satisfactory and the committee do not recommend any further alterations. ELECTRIC LIGHT. The committee recommends:: That the electrical engineer be authorised to stock electrical motors and other electrical apparatus .to the value of £2OO, and that consideration of Mr. Cliff's application for extension of electric light mains be deferred until the teleg'i'apli alterations on the Avenue road are coml>Mod. ...jk"' v •■ !
