Destructive Cyclone
HEAVY LOSSES. IIOUSKS SMASHED TO PIRXS.. Py Cubit!— Press Association Copyright Sydney, January 10. A cyclone in the Tsumvortli ami Xcminglia districts, accompanied by torrenliul rain and hail, did widespread damage. Many houses were dfsmantled and unroofed. The buildings damaged included the Anglican church and iii large butter factory. A big area of lucerne and tobacco crops were destroyed. The loss will amount to many thousands of pounds.
There were several Hensational escapes. Some men wore blown, from a load of! liny over a. fence. The force of the wind may lie gauged by the fact that weather-board houses and sheila were smashed to piece and blown clean away. Pigs were lifted over fences. A Hood added ts devastation. Luckily the storm exhausted itself iu a limited area.
MAYXE SCKS THE AGK Melbourne, January 10. Mayne, as manager of the cricket team which recently visited America, has issued a writ claiming £1()(J0 damages against the Age newspaper, for alleged dibel contained in articles under the heading of "Stranded Cricketers," "Unprofitable Cricket Tour,"' published in August and September last.
