A SYDNEY TRAGEDY.

FATHER AXD SON SHOT. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright Received 11, 5.5 p.m. Sydney, January 10. A tragedy took place at Double Bay. Mrs. Hardy, wife of Walter Hardy, head of a large city jewellery firm, bearing shouts proceed from the bedroom of her son Alan, '2l years of age, found the latter in beil, and her husband dead on the floor, with a revolver alongside, both being shot in the head. The son died en route to the hospital.

It is surmised that the father shot his son and then ihimself, but the cause of the tragedy is a mystery. : ; Received 11, 5.10 p.m. Sydney, January 11.

The. tragedy is inexplicable, excepting the theory of the sudden dementia of the father. The son, who was an only child, was on most affectionate terms with his father. The son was apparently shot while sleeping. Last year the father Jiad a physical and nervous breakdown, and, under medical advice, visited England, lie returned to cope with the heavy Christmas business. Though still suffering from nervous tension, he refused to take the advice of his son and others to take a further rest.
