■T. C. WILLIAMSON'S XFAY COMIC OPFiiA CO. "Til 10 COUNT OF LI'XI'.MHOL'R'!/' On Monday night .1. C. Williamson's new (jomie opera company will stage for the first time here Franz Lehar's charmingly picturesque and daintily scored musical comedy. "The Count of Luxembourg," which recently created n perfect furore of enthusiasm in Auckland. In tjie ''Count of Luxembourg" there is l.ehur's music and Adrian Unas' lyrics, both, it is said, appropriately light. There is a Bohemian and artistic setting in the first act: the splendor of the C'rand Duke's ball for the second act, and upon both these scenes as well a,s the story, is built ihe real creation, which is mirth and melody. There is a waltz of the same, languorous charm as that in ''The Merry Widow.'' ami there are many other companionable airs. In the I'oheinhin strains the coinposer, it is said, produces the gav spirit' of carnival that sets feet, tupping. Tn the second act, the waltz.'melody bring* out the sentimental side of tlie story, and at times it is said the music i-. quite up to the standard of grand opera: and there are some quaint numbers which, it is said, are particularly well sung by the comedians. The elaborate scoring for the waltz—evidently none of Fran/. Cellar's operas would'be complete without a waltz—is one of the features of the work. The eloquent harmonies for the violins, tbe mellow tones of the violincello aud harp, and the, telling phrases for the brasses unite in u rich ensemble, to which variety is imparted by ihe frequent changes of the mood. The whole of the scenery and effects for the •'Count of Louxembourg" have already arrived in charge of a large stall' of mechanics and electriciain so that, everything is prepared for .Monday night's representation.
