PARIHAKA ROAD BOARD.
MONTHLY MKICTIW. The monthly meeting of the Parihaka lioad Board was held at the Hoard's oflice, itahotu, on Thursday, when there were present: Messrs. .las. Young (chairman), T. Harvey, .las. Phillips, A. C'assie and (i. Holmes.' FOREMAN'S ItKPORT.
Tlie foreman (Mr. .1. P. Kennedy) reported that Mr. Willcox refused to contribute anything towards the cleaning of the drain on the Lower Kahui road. The Upper Kahui ro.ul had been repaired with broken metal from l!:ihotu as far as Mr. E. Duggan's residence. it was now in fair order, considering the bad went her. The surfacemen hail put in the three days on the Nowall road, as
asked by .Mr. T. Julian. A set of I Sin pipes had been put in on the Lower Waiteaka road, which hud also been repaired- 'iiie Iliaia road had got in very bad order, lie asked that £V) should be expended in repairs before the ha" weather set in. An outlet was being made mv.r Mr. Cooinbe.s', on Hit: Upper Kina road, where minor repairs had aLo been made. The Bailey, Stent. Te Xanni and Rahotu roads were receiving attention. Some new harness had been ordered to replace that worn oat. Ten •1 Kin and four 12i'n pipes had been sold during the month.'It was resolved that the Board's stall' clean out the drain on the Lower Kalim road during February. With regard to the Iliaia road, it was pointed out that this road was overdrawn to tlie extent of £ll2, just a year's rates. As tlie bank overdraft was about up to the limit, the feeling- of members was that they should go slow in the matter of expenditure. The matter was therefore held over for a month or two. It was quite impossible to keep these roads in repair on a halfpenny rate, and the sooner settler? were disillusioned the better. Attempting to do so was, moreover, robbing roads in » better position.

He pointed out that the very wet weather in the spring had knocked the bottom out of the roads. Mr. Harvey: Next year, on the new valuation, the rates may lie ■higher. Old asked the Board to take the nccess.iry steps to raise the sum of being a portion of a joint, loan of .CI3UU which it was proposed to raise in conjunction with the Werekino Hoad Hoard to form and nietnl the I 'nil ill o road above the Cairington road. After discussion, the Hoard decided to hold tile matter over until the foreman had visited the site and ascertained whether the amount proposed to be raised would be siillicieut to complete the work. OEXKRAL. ■ Mr Cassie reported that he had not yet been able v t.o interview Mr. .Burgess, 'proprietor of the Warea sawmill, re royalty, as Mr. Burgess had not vet returned. The Board decided to advertise notice le payment of rates. It was re-olved to thank the County Council for granting the Board permission to erect u pipe shed on tile Council's property. The ranger is to be instructed to attend to the straying cattle nuisance in the northern end of the district. Mr. L. Fischer asked if the Board ■would he prepared to lease the pound.— No action taken. s It was resolved to charge Mr. Harrison 12k, the cost of removing fences 011 the Pungarelui road. Accounts amounting to .L'(i 72 lß.s were ]>assed for payment.
