THE AMERICANS' VISIT.. SPORTS AT PAUIEUSTON NORTH. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Palmerston North, Last Night. •There was more than usual interest taken in amateur athletics bv residents of I'almerstnn North this afternoon, n visit from the American team doubtless being t isjiuiisiUo for the suddeu revival. TJcrc was a good attendance. The meeting generally passed off most successfully, and some of the events were wcli* fought out. Parker, the American sprinter, was unfortunately scratched for all engagements. In all the. events in which they competed tic visitors acquitted themselves with credit. In putting the shot E. I?. Caughcy (U.S.A.) esta Wished an Australasian record, adding nine inches to the previous record. In the 120 yds hurdles Templeton (U.S.A.) suffered an unfortunate defeat by Keddell. In the final Stagpoole, the local athlete, who had a good lead, struck the seventh hurdle, Templeton also getting slightlv hit, which gave him a slight set-back, aud although making up the lost ground he lost Hie race by inche.'i, In the hi,!,'h jump Templeton cleared oft Din aiid made a shot at aft llin, but was unsuccessful. The half "mile was an easy race for Power (U.S.A.), who eovevod the distance in 2min <fsec. Templeton easily beat Young's 3ft handicap in the long jump, covering 21ft 9in against l!)ft .i'/oin.
