After the Strike

:. THE TAUPJRI. JUKES. ~ t . DIRKCTOHS ST a|ON% FIRM. '■ By Telegraph.—l¥ess Aissoeialion, " AucklaiuVS.ast Night. - ? At a full meeting of tbfc directors of '\ the Taupiri Ooal Mining Company thl* afternoon, the following resolution WW arrived at, in answer to the demitatiou from the men at Jfimtly, expressing their wiHiiijrnoKa to return ami join the new union if the company would rein- ' state the men without discrimination:— "After carefully considering the proposals submitted !>'■ the deputation, the directors cannot see their .way 'to give effect to the proposition; ns there is a small percentage of the men on strike who have, with set- tatted a part inimical to the company's interest l !, and whom the directors feel it would be inadvisable to re-employ."

AUCKLAND LABOR MARKET. OUTLOOK NOT VERY GOOD. Auckland, Laat Night. Inquiries as to the position of the labor market* in Auckland would seem to point to the aftermath of the strike being still here, m there are quite sufficient men offering for the work which is available in t.lie town r,nd the suburbs. Tn addition to this, it is known that a * number of men are temporarily out of " employment, they having been told-by their employers to "stand by" for a week . oi" two. This has occurred in the -minting and other trader, during the part week.

At the ■ ■'■ofwnt time there is a wood demand for labor in the country districts, as harvesting is in good swijfg, but, there only men are wanted who h&YC a knowledge of farm work. The demand for men to milk is afco steady. So far as pick-and-shovel work is con~-

eerncd, there are feveral fairly big contracts to come on shortly, including the laying of l(f miles of drainage-nipes in ! tho Epsom district, and a number of smaller road jobs are to be let in Waitcmata Count v. At the same time it is feared that the outlook for the, labor market is not very good for the new year in Auckland, so far as town employment is concerned.

THE POSITION AT LYTTELTON. Ohrislchnrdi, Last Night. Eighty new membei«, were enrolled in the new union of waterside workers this' morning, bringing it to a strength, of . »<2l). Seventy-nine of who joined were ex-strikers. As only about 230 men mo employed on the whanva during normal times, it would seem that a large number of men will be .short of work most of the time. It i s thought that * lriiiny workers who are at present in the union, when I hey realise that regular work cannot be'found for them, will leave the waterfront for some other occupation. WORK AT HUNTLY. ■ Huntly, Yesterday. , Only 30 men returned to work at the Huntly mines yesterday. These in- ■ eluded 1(1 miners and truckers, 9 casu»l hands, who, with 71 engine-drivers, deputies and mechanic!) who remained loy-il to the company right through, made 101 actually working. When the whistles blew this morning one new hand put in an appearance, but three who turned to yesterday were absent. Only 28, therefore, started today. The men consider this falling .)f! a distinct'victory. The company officials attribute it to the fact that tho • majority of the strikers arc awaiting the decision of the directors to-day be- ■. fore acting.
