The Standard, commenting on the Chronicle's expansion of Mr. Lloyd George's statement, says if Mr. Lloyd George's words are to. be taken on their face value, he has no right to continue, in the Cabinet. If they meant nothing, he is unfit to sit in any Cabinet. The paper adds that any Minister, who in levity and incontinence of speech plunges a continent into uneasiness and alarm, is not wanted anywhere.
NAVY LEAGUE'S CAMPAIGN. THREE DREADNOUGHTS FOR WORLD-WIDE NEEDS. Received 7, 11.35 p.m. London, January 7. The Navy League is initiating its campaign. It states that exclusive of the three Empire ships, the British large units in March 1010 will have a bare margin of fifty per rent over Germany, which the Admiralty regards as the minimum safety in Home waters,"while for world-wide needs they only have three Dreadnoughts.
