AMERICAN WORKERS' METHOTS. FIGHT A PITCHED BATTLE. SHARPSHOOTERS SILENCE STRIKERS. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. New York, January 5. Austrian strikers at Tacoma fought a pitched battle on the liill overlooking the Tacoma smelting plant, from which the men recently declared a strike. Several persons were injured, but a body of sharpshooters speedily silenced the Austrians after a fierce interchange of bullets. It is unknown if any of the strikers were injured. The militia has been ordered out.
MUSICIANS ON STEfKEv THE' DISPUTE SPREADING. Sydney, January 6. The .theatre orchestras have joined with the picture show musicians, and arc demanding an increase of ten shillings per week, but, pending negotiations, the orchestras have not withdrawn. Similar action has been taken in Melbourne. There are indications that the dispute lias been made to embrace the whole of the States.
