RESISTANCE OF ULSTER. VOLUNTEER MANOEUVRES. By Cable —Press Association—Copyright London, January 5. The East Belfast regiment of Ulster volunteers has concluded a week's manoeuvres at Ormiston, under Colonel Chichester and Major Madden. Night attacks were practised under Colonel McAlmont, M.P. for Antrim. Detectives watched the exercises.

The Customs seized war material consigned to two regiments at Carriekfergns Ca3tle, in view that it was possible they were for the Ulster volunteers. Although the cases were conspicuously marked with the Govern, mont broad arrow, and despite the officers' bitter protests, they refused to release the goods, arguing that the proclamation made no mention of exemptions.
MR. W. O'BRIEN'S VIEWS. PRIME MINISTER NOT BLAMABLE. Received 6, 10.40 p.m. London, January C. Mr William O'Brien, M.P., speaking in Cork, said that Ireland would be saved from a quagmire if Lord Lorcburn's proposals were honestly accepted. He did not blame Mr Asquith, Whose hands were tied by the Devlins and the Dillons on one side and by Welsh Radicals on the other. Mr O'Brien added that lie did not believe the rumor that Mr John Redmond was weakening regarding the partition of Ireland. His party still was ready to co-operate with Mr Redmond in generous concessions to Protestants.
