For some time past a feature of the trade has been the scarcity of best-quality butters, but of late* the high price lias checked a genuine demand. Danish 130s to 1335.. New Zealand USs to 1235, Australian 110s to 110s, Argentine 120s to 121s, SiV-rfaw 108s to 114s. I Cheese.—The market is firm on 4 steady and higher prices are anticipated. Canadian white, per cwt., 07s to OSs, colored GRs to 09s; Australian, 02s to <IGs; New Zealand, white Oos to 08s, colored llfis to G7s. Prices arc nominal for New Zealand. There is no change in prices for English, cheddar. It h estimated that Canadian cheese stocks at London, Liverpool and Bristol on January 2 were 223,{Jt)0 cases, against 300,000 at th« same time last year. New Zealand and Australian stocks at London and Bristol were 7000 cases, against 1G;>,000 at the same time last year. Hemp—'The market is quiet, but rather steadier, although business is dull.
