J. C. WILLIAMSON'S NI'AY tOMIC i UPKIU COMPANY. | - "TifE COUNT OF LUXK.MIiOUIM;.'' Extraordinary intercut is being taken iu the first and only production in New Plymouth on Monday night, January 12, of Franz L.-liar's tuneful and gi.ygcoii.-'-ly ' mounted musical play, "The Count ol" Luxembourg," whieh attracted record ' audiences to Daly's Theatre lor ->OO nights, and enjoyed a run ol over .six I months in Syd'ney and Melbourne. "I he Count of Luxembourg" began ils career ia an auspicious manner in London, as tho opening performance was attended by the King and Queen, and King (leorge personally complimented Franz Lehar on I the excellatiee and success of his work. The prime merit of the "Count of Luxembourg" lies in its musical cliarm, which, assisted by clever comedy situations, pretty ballets, gorgeous dressing, effective groupings, and elaborate scenery made it one of the most successful musical plays staged in London and Australia during recent years. Franz Lobar, the composer, has, it is said, succeeded .in creating a scries of melodies which in daintiness, tunefulness and captivating power, excel even those by the same composer in "Tho Merry Widow." A voice of the charm and range of Miss Florence Young's naturally makes a deep impression in musical memories, and she will doubtless receive a warm welcome. Hie present company is particularly strong from a singing point of view, as Messrs Reginald Roberts and Frank Greene, and Misses Celia (Jhiloui and j Dorothy Brunton are all possessors of j good voices. In Mr. I'-liil Smith the ' J. C. Williamson management have evidently secured a comedian out of the ordinary, hi Australia he walked right into the front rank of popularity in one bound, and he is now an established favorite. Mr. Robert W-hyte, junr-, Mr. Victor Prince and Clonic.-, Albert are ofiher langlitei'-makers. The Russian dancer, Vlasta N'ovotna, is a great asset to the company. The full orchestra and chorus is under the baton of Ib rr ttustave Slupoffski. The plans will be opened at Collier's on Friday morning next at 8 o'clock.
