A Tragic Affair
FATHER ACCIDENTALLY KILLS HIS CHILD. SHOT THROUGH A WINDOW. INSTANTANEOUS DEATH. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christcluirdi, Lust Night. A distressing shootin<; fatality occur-' red at Stoke, near Cast, at 5.30 p.m. on i 'Saturday, the victim of the accident being Ethel IJoreen Tallott, a little 'irl between seven and eight years of age. Her father, IT. Tallott,' a well-known farmer and a member of the Rangiora ' County Council, took his gun into his scullery to shoot, through a window, a cat which had been destroying chickens. , The child, who was waiting round the corner of the house, with her sister, to see the shooting, ran out and picked' up a milkcan which wns standing in the yard, and carried it out of the way. Tallott thought that she had taken it J back with her. hut she had j*)ne with -t into a fPtirihhouso opposite the window. Her sister called out to her to look out, as the gun was going to l)e fired, but she evidently did not hear. Just as Tallott took aim and flretl 'she stepped out from the washhouseand received the full charge of shot in her right breast, instantaneous death resulting. At an inquest to-day a verdict of accidental death wa.? returned.
