BARON AND PRIEST
.APPOINTED TO A CURACY.. j London, December 22. Lord Mountmorres has been ordained a priest, and has been appointed to a curacy in the Tale of Wight. The new curato is the sixth viscount, t ami, curiously enough, bis cousin and heir, is also a clergyman, the Rev, Herve Bouchard de Montmorency. The new priest is a Fellow of Hie Linnacan Society and a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, and in his earlier days was a lieutenant in the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve. Lord Montmorres was also a traveller of some note, for he , wandered through America, the West I Indies. Egypt, the Sahara Desert, MovoeI co, and Asia Minor, and 10,000 miles in | West and Central Africa and the Congo Free State. He acted as lion. A.D.C. to lb Governor of .Jamaica at the time of tho terrible Kingston earthquake, and J received the thanks of the Jamaican Government for the services he rendered on that occi'sion. He is the author of a number of scientific works, including "The Congo Independent State," "Maize, Cocoa, and Rubber, Hints on their Production in West Africa," "Some Ignored Factors in International Economics," ''The. Races of tho Unknown Heart of Africa," "Notes on the Jamaica Earth-' quake," and various papers on tropical agriculture and commerce. He. received | the silver medal of the Society of Arts for contributions to the study of etlino- } gi-apbv.
