A second sensational attempt to run the steamer Williamctte, plying along the Californian coast, was •frustrated by Captain Reiner. As the captain was silting in hiss cabin a disguised and masked armed man entered. The captain grappled with the intruder, instantly securing his revolver. The shouts and cries attracted sailors, who secured the man. From his behaviour it' is believed he is insane. Mis confederate was. however, also arrested. He declared that they had planned to rob the ship's safe of a large sum and compel the passengers and' crew tn give up their valuables. The would-be robbers tiavelled amongst the passenger-; urn: 1 , the vessel was in the open sea. -
